SALT LAKE CITY, July 19, 2010 – In order to distribute millions of pounds of food statewide annually, Utah Food Bank must have appropriate warehousing facilities. As an in-kind and financial contribution, Ivory Homes is completing the final interior construction to Utah Food Bank’s new warehouse.

Ivory Homes, known for their philanthropy and solid home building practices, is constructing a Repack Room for volunteer and food storage space at Utah Food Bank. The donation includes drafting architectural designs, submitting plans, obtaining permits, acquiring subcontractors, providing equipment and engaging staff to assist with construction and painting.

The room is a critical space that will allow up to 40 volunteers to conduct projects where foods must be sorted and repackaged. As a portion of such food products are fresh and frozen, it was crucial that this room be located near Utah Food Bank’s refrigerator and freezer. Food sorted at and distributed from Utah Food Bank is then transported to 150 emergency food pantries and agencies statewide.

“Ivory Homes is an incredible partner that does not hesitate to think outside the box with their giving options,” Utah Food Bank CEO Jim Pugh said. “It’s a natural fit for Utah’s number one home-builder to help us with our own building endeavors. It’s their industry expertise combined with their commitment in the fight against hunger that have made the partnership so valuable.”

“We’ve enjoyed being involved with the Utah Food Bank for many years,” Ivory Homes CEO Clark Ivory said. “They programs and resources they have in place provide a tremendous benefit to our community.  Many of our sub-contractors have also stepped up to generously contribute to the project.  We are pleased to contribute our resources and expertise to provide a facility that will allow the Food Bank to help even more Utah families.”

Construction is expected to be complete by the August 31. Photos and updates can be found at www.UtahFoodBank.org/IvoryHomesGives.
